On the 18-19 June 2016, Edinburgh will see the second edition of the Power of Food Festival take place across the city. This exceptional not-for-profit festival invites the public to visit community food gardens and to enjoy a wide range of entertainment for all ages.

The Power of Food Festival celebrates and showcases the transformative work done by volunteers in community gardens, in terms of social inclusion, wellbeing, and environmental awareness. Last year, 15 gardens took part in the Festival and about 500 visitors enjoyed the event. Activities offered to visitors included introductions to gardening, fun learning about insects, storytelling, and poetry writing; often accompanied by delicious food, sometimes by music, and now and then by sunshine. Check out our new video on the Festival’s website.

Get involved!

Several community gardens have already indicated their keen desire to participate and are starting to turn their mind to what entertainment and activities they will host. If you like what the Power of Food Festival is about, there are a few ways to get involved and make it a success:

  • Offer your energy, enthusiasm and skills to run an event at one of the gardens on the 18th and/or 19th June. You do not need to be an expert, if you are passionate about any aspect of food, nature or wildlife, if you like sharing your creative skills, or if you are a good entertainer, the team would be delighted to hear from you.
  • Become a member, or make a donation.
  • Like the festival on Facebook, follow on Twitter
