Getting ready for winter and tidying up apples in your garden or allotment. Get inspired by the plot holders at Inverleith Allotment who combined their harvest and windfall to produce apple juice and cider at their annual Apple Day. A good way to use any bruised or damaged apples, some allotments share an apple press to avoid wasting the crop. Using an apple press is a good workout and very rewarding when you stack up the finished bottles of fresh juice.
There are many recipes out there to make use of your fruit crops for chutneys, pies and puddings. If you can store any extra apples in a cool place or freeze them, this will give you a supply to add to winter recipes. Thanks to Deva Smith for the photographs.
